Canadian Music Week

I've spent the past couple of minutes, eyes glazed over, staring at the list of bands invited to play at this year's Canadian Music Week. There are two things I've noticed: 1) There aren't many notable acts this year and 2) There are some really terrible band names.

To their credit, band names appear more cliche than usual when put in a long list with other band names. But come on, a band named "Holy Fuck"? Please. If judging a band by its name is like judging a book by its cover then I'm imagining a screamo band of skinny white suburban 16-year-old boys. Of course I'm probably wrong. Last year, Holy Fuck played at Pop Montreal, who had this to say about them:

We let these guys in just because of the name. The fact that the midi/computer/sample/sequence/drum machine free electronic mashing is wonderful and brilliant was a bonus. Oh yeah, apparently, he's a hot cat.

It sounds like something I'd actually listen to. So maybe I shouldn't jump to quick conclusions about bands based on their name. Or maybe bands should just have better names. Or maybe I should stop being bitter about never starting my own band. Anyway, the CMW lineup kind of blows right now. Expect/hope for updates with more "buzz" bands closer to the date.

Is anyone looking for a tamborine player? I also do the triangle and can clap well.
