Blog on blog
I've been thinking about the "technoculture" of blogs lately. Tuesday's BSS show was not only a wicked performance from some of this city's finest performers, but I also go to see a number of friendly faces from the past. And you know what we talked about? Blogs. Blogs!
Part of me thinks this is embarassingly geeky. But the other part of me is like eff it, you're reading this and who are you to judge me for being a webgeek who likes to write? I'm a journalist damnit! This is what we do. We write and people read and we secretly get an ego-boost when someone turns around when the Stars come on stage and says "You know what's funny Chiu? I know how much you love the Stars."
Haha. Maybe Chris is right, we need real world friends, but the funny thing is, most of us started off as real world friends. It's the way of the future kids, strap on your wrist guards and ride the carpal tunnel syndrome highway of information.

Chris: It's always a pleasure seeing you.
Frank: I was only hanging with 1050 during the Apostle set and then moved up right behind Rannie for BSS. I guess I was right behind you too. Bloggers are everywhere!

I love my blogger friends. Some would say even more than my non-blogger friends.
So, in short Andrea, I love you.

if i may: we blog because we are hip and to be hip is to blog. we are also extremely nerdy and have intense hardons or are wet with desire for pop or indie culture, whateves. now the fact is the people i read and the people who read me have shit in common -we're beating the same tribal drum that mcluhan told us all about...

if you were hanging with the 1051AM crew, then you couldn't have been more than four or five rows behind myself and Photojunkie. And yeah, we were talking about blogs.

you're a journalist dammit! i agree.
the ego boost thing kinda rings alarms for me. I mean, I'm guilty of it myself, but this fine line where egos sometimes tread gives blogging a bad name. Critics are right to say blogs can be frivolous, self-absorbed and discredit "true" journalism. There is a strong publishing tradtition we don't really have a right to mess with. ... but then again, that's what makes blogs so good. I think you're okay though, having two blogs and somewhat separating out the pretentious or part of you that wants to talk about yourself. You are, after all, part poet, that's important- express yourself!
I don't think being a blogger necessarily makes you a hipster though or even a technogeek... that attitude bugs me a bit. everyone has a blog these days, everyone knows about blogging, it's not that hip anymore. we're a bit naive to think that we're still so cutting-edge... basically, we're people who have too much time on our hands or make time to post things on the internet because we think we have something to say that other people might care about. whether they do or not is another story. Is that hip? maybe... (I don't think i was talking to you there, but just to an earlier comment)... i think you are cool, but not cause you blog.
Great thoughts! Thanks for sharing and making us all think and stuff and things.
